The painful birth of Christianity is synonymous with the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. This sent forth his disciples to spread the words that people, particularly the poor and oppressed, longed to hear. One had only to accept Jesus Christ as the true son of God.But few believed it was that easy. Many felt they had to emulate Christ, to suffer even to die, and so the Jewish cult of martyrdom entered the hallways of Christianity and spread into the Arabian deserts of Islam.
This belief, today manifest in terrorism, suicide bombings and the sacrifice of human life, be it by deliberate force or "friendly fire"continues all in the name of God. But how did this come to be?
The answer lies in the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.
